Hyundai will launch a performance sub-brand
Today’s big news comes from South Korea where Hyundai has announced that they have big plans to establish a performance sub-brand, quite similar to what Nissan is doing with Nismo. We already know the Asian automaker plans on entering the competitive WRC from next year with a rally version of the current-gen i20. Their ambitious plans to reshape their image will continue in 2015 when they will introduce the second generation of the i20 which will be the basis of a new WRC car and will also serve as the foundation for a high-performance street-legal i20.
This hotter i20 will represent Hyundai’s very first model part of this performance sub-brand and could possibly lead the way for other models as well, such as the Veloster Turbo and the Genesis Coupe. By making these bold moves, Hyundai hopes they will improve their image around the world and at the same time boost sales.
