South Korean marque Kia has published two teaser images with the 2016 Optima set to be unveiled on April 1. The model has already been previewed through the attractive SPORTSPACE concept and now it’s almost ready to show its production face scheduled to make an appearance at this year’s New York Auto Show. Don’t get your hopes up too high after seeing these design sketches as the actual car won’t look as attractive as this, but it should still be one of the most stylish models in the mid-size segment.
Kia says the 2016 Optima has been “passionately designed and obsessively crafted” and it will likely get a little bit bigger since prototypes spotted by spy photographers had elongated rear doors. This means the wheelbase has been stretched so the interior cabin should be more spacious compared to the outgoing model.
In terms of engines, expect the US-spec model to get the Hyundai Sonata’s 1.6 and 2.0 turbocharged gasoline units along with a 2.4- naturally aspirated motor while the European version will likely make use of an updated 1.7 CRDi turbodiesel engine.
