Limited edition Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street introduced
Volkswagen revealed the other day not only the WRC-ready variant of the Polo R, but also a road-legal version limited to only 2,500 units. This is a follow-up to the concept showcased by VW last March at the Wörthersee Tour festival and will be available on order starting December 11, with pricing starting from a steep 33,900 EUR. Although ordering begins as early as tomorrow, customers will have to wait for their cars until September next year. It comes with a white paint finish with blue and grey strips, diffuser, roof spoiler and rides on large 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped around in 215/35 rubbers. It also has an aggressive front bumper with big air intakes.
Motivation comes from the 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo engine fitted with direct injection and capable of pumping out an impressive 217 HP and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. All those ponies are sent to the wheels in the front through a 6-speed manual transmission, while the braking power is provided by the 16-inch rotors. Thanks to this setup, the Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street does the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 6.4 seconds before reaching a top speed of 150 mph (243 km/h).
Despite the impressive performance, the car still remains economical as it manages to return an average fuel consumption of 7.5 liters / 100 km while CO2 emissions stand at 174 g/km. Inside it gets sports seats with Alcantara for the middle section, as well as a black Alcantara steering wheel and aluminum pedals.
