Lister Thunder 2018 review
The Lister was Britain’s most successful race car during the 1950’s, it dominated across the island and then in America too. From then on, Lister have released numerous anniversary editions of the car alongside other models. Their newest car, the Thunder, is an adaption of the Jaguar F-Type.
Producing 666BHP and climbing to a top speed of 208MPH, this is no ordinary Jaguar… The base car is the F-Type R, Lister have then remapped the engine, added a new Novitec exhaust, increased the supercharger boost and added new intercoolers. This culminates in 670BHP on the dyno, however Lister prefer to market it at 666BHP. Further upgrades include 21-inch alloys and a new adjustable suspension system.
Just 99 examples will hit the streets, of these, 20 examples were reserved at the reveal. Obviously, the rarity of this car plays a factor, but it’s common knowledge in the automotive world that this sports car is a different breed, combining luxury and speed in an elegant package. The fine tuning from Lister will just add to this mix, making it one the best drivers cars on the road this year.
Simon from Southern Commercial Sales said, “I was really excited when I saw that Lister were turning their attention to the F-Type, I remember when my Dad showed me some of their earlier work. They’re a great company with strong British values.”
With any car, there will always be complaints. For this car, it’s the rock-hard suspension. Every little bump is felt in the quilted leather sports seats, the 21-inch alloys play a part but the adaptive suspension is a killer. When you’re driving hard it adds an extra level to the enjoyment, however, in traffic or on suburban roads, you’re constantly jolted in your seat. Surprisingly, the noise also comes into question. Everyone loves an exhaust rumble and burble on downshift. However, many reviews have said the noise in normal conditions can be turned down without sacrificing any of the charm or aggressiveness of the car.
Despite the complaints, this is an excellent car. There are countless companies who tune cars, however Lister have done it properly. They haven’t altered the feeling of the car, instead they’ve enhanced it and made it a better drivers car than ever. The suspension may be hard and the exhaust may be loud, but this is a car that’s meant to ignite the senses, not conform to your everyday life.
