Maserati Ghibli launched at Auto Shanghai 2013
Italian marque Maserati has introduced last weekend at 2013 Auto Shanghai the all-new Ghibli which will be the first model in the company’s history to get a diesel engine. We are talking about a V6 3.0-liter turbodiesel developed with an ex motorist that worked at Ferrari. The engine is capable of producing 275 HP and 443 lb-ft and helps the “baby Quattroporte” hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.3 seconds. In this configuration, the car returns 39.2 mpg US (47 mpg UK or 6 liters / 100 km) while CO2 emissions stand at 160 g/km. The engine is linked to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, just like the other two gasoline mills.
The first one is a twin-turbo V6 3.0-liter power unit offering 330 HP and 369 lb-ft, allowing the RWD variant return 24.5 mpg US (29.4 mpg UK or 9.6 liters / 100 km) and reach 62 mph in 5.6 seconds. The range-topping Ghibli S has the same engine but tweaked to deliver 410 HP and 410 lb-ft. It sends the Ghibli to 62 mph in five seconds before reaching a top speed of 177 mph (285 km/h).
Compared to the Quattroporte, the Ghibli has a 20cm shorter wheelbase and a 29cm shorter overall length. As standard it’s fitted with 18-inch rims but various styles of up to 21 inches can be optionally ordered. A Q4 all-wheel drive system is available at an additional cost.
