Mercedes-Benz reveals new naming structure
Mercedes-Benz will be introducing starting next year a new naming scheme which will have an effect on several models within the range. First of all, the GLK crossover is set to become the GLC as a reference to the model’s similar size with the C-Class. Using the same rule, the ML will commercialized with the GLE designation to better connect with the E-Class, while the larger GL will get the GLS name. This naming scheme has already been implemented in the GLA and CLA which both share just about the same size with the A-Class.
The list of changes doesn’t end here as the SLK roadster will be known in the future as a SLC. There aren’t any modifications to the A, B, C, E, G, S and SL models but Mercedes-Benz will be implementing a new nomenclature to better point out a car’s drive system. A lowercase letter will be used to reveal the engine’s type, as follows: compressed natural gas (“c”), diesel (“d”), electric (“f”) and hybrid (“h”).
