BMW-owned MINI has issued a press release that includes additional information about the fastest car that they’ve ever made. It’s the John Cooper Works GP limited edition that will be produced in only 2,000 units. The vehicle is motivated by a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine capable of outputting 215 hp, which is a little bit more than the regular JCW’s 208 hp power figure. The peak torque has remained the same, standing at 192 lb-ft (260 Nm). This horsepower is sent to the wheels in the front courtesy of a 6-speed manual gearbox. The MINI JCW GP needs 6.3 seconds (0.2 less than the regular model) to do the 0-62 mph sprint, en route to a top speed of 150 mph (242 km/h) compared to the 148 mph (238 km/h) top speed of the standard JCW.
The MINI John Cooper Works GP benefits from an individually adjustable coilover suspension that lowers the ride height by up to 20mm. Other changes include front shock absorbers that are mounted upside down in the tube, as well as reduced front wheel toe-in, different front & rear cambers, lighter 17-inch alloys wrapped in 215/40 R17 sports rubbers, 6-piston fixed-caliper discs (the front ones are vented) and the Dynamic Stability Control which is not combined with the Dynamic Traction Control.
Design-wise, the exterior is wearing a Thunder Grey metallic finish which is available only on this version, featuring red accents for the edging around the hood opening, but also for the side air intakes in the front apron and the mirror caps. We also notice the GP decals, a rear diffuser, roof spoiler, side skirts, as well as front and rear aprons.
Inside the cabin there’s no rear bench, while MINI has installed for the driver and the passenger sitting on the right side Recaro sport seats with GP stitching. Other changes worth mentioning include the leather steering wheel and gearshift knob, piano black interior surfaces, anthracite roof liner, speedometer and rev counter dials.
