The Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV II has made its online appearance prior to a public debut set for next week at the Geneva Motor Show. Basically an evolution of a concept from a couple of years ago, the XR-PHEV II is a front-wheel drive plug-in hybrid vehicle taking the shape of a four-seater compact crossover designed primarily for city use. It can be driven both in electric mode and on the power provided by the combustion engine while the car’s system can automatically switch from all-electric to series or parallel hybrid depending on battery level and road conditions. Battery Save and Battery Charge modes can be manually selected by the driver.
Motivation is provided by a conventional gasoline engine installed at the front where there’s also an electric motor producing 163 HP along with a battery pack that has a capacity of 12 kWh. Thanks to this hardware setup, the Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV II offers “high power and high torque” while CO2 emissions stand at less than 40 g/km.
Mitsubishi says the concept previews a forthcoming production plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) to join the Outlander PHEV. This concept has the following dimensions: 4490 mm length, 1890 mm width, 1620mm height and with a 2670 mm wheelbase.
