Nissan is showcasing at the Chicago Auto Show the Frontier Diesel Runner concept which serves as a tool to gauge feedback regarding a potential next generation Frontier powered by a Cummins diesel engine. The interesting concept is actually based on the Frontier Desert Runner 4×2 and has gained a more aggressive exterior body kit, an aerodynamic tonneau cover as well as a roof rack. Other than that, the concept comes along with a carbon fiber engine cover, a transparent hood and 16-inch alloys wrapped around in off-road tires. The interior adopts a two-tone theme with leather seats, grey accent stitching and a carbon fiber trim.
At its heart is a Cummins 2.8-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine generating around 200 bhp and more than 474 Nm of torque. The engine works with an 8-speed automatic gearbox allow the car to be no less than 35 percent more frugal than the model equipped with a V6 4.0-liter gasoline motor.
