Peugeot has confirmed the 208 Hybrid FE Concept will be at the company’s stand in September during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The interesting concept is a whopping 200 kg lighter than the regular 208 1.0-liter VTi base version. The significant diet was possible after they installed composite VER/carbon wings and hood, as well as composite body panels that have cut down the body shell’s weight from 295 kg to 227 kg. Peugeot utilized carbon fiber for the door panels and the outer skin of the car which tips the scales at 20 kg. Polycarbonate glazing was used for all windows except for the ones in the doors, thus saving an extra 5 kg.
Motivation is provided by a 1.2-liter gasoline engine working together with a 40 bhp electric motor. Power is delivered through a five-speed semi-automatic gearbox which enables the 208 Hybrid FE concept to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8 seconds. Peugeot says the car will do an outstanding 112.4 mpg US (135 mpg UK or 2.1 liters / 100 km) while CO2 emissions are of only 49 g/km.
