Renault is proud to introduce an interesting concept that goes by the name of Eolab. It will premiere next month at the Paris Motor Show where it will bring its asymmetrical three-door layout wrapped around in a body which has a drag coefficient of only 0.235. It has received active rear flaps and an active rear spoiler while the active wheels actually open up to reduce drag and cool down the brakes. It also benefits from an active suspension system that will adjust the ride height on its own in order to lower drag.
Compared to the Clio supermini, Renault’s Eolab concept weighs 400 kg less thanks to a multi-material body shell made from aluminum, steel and composites. It also comes with a very thin windscreen glass, magnesium roof and an ultra-lightweight interior cabin.
Motivation is provided by a hybrid power train encompassing a 3-cylinder 1.0-liter gasoline engine working together with a three-gear transmission that has a built-in electric motor. The conventional engine delivers 75 PS and 95 Nm while the electric motor offers an extra 68 PS and 200 Nm. Thanks to a 6.7 kWh battery pack, the Renault Eolab concept has an electric range of 60 km while in hybrid mode it consumes just 1 liter / 100 km.
