The Tesla Roadster 3.0 package has been introduced and it brings a series of improvements. The most important change is the implementation of a newly developed lithium-ion battery package that has a capacity of around 70 kWh. Despite having just about the same size as the old one, it’s capable of storing an additional 31 percent of energy. Other tweaks include better wheel bearings and latest low-rolling resistance tires while the retrofit aerodynamic body kit will diminish the drag coefficient from 0.36 to 0.31
The Tesla Roadster 3.0 will be able to travel for 40-50 percent more than the previous model which means that a single charge will grant a range of more than 400 miles (643.7 km), enough for a demonstration run from San Francisco to Los Angeles scheduled for early 2015.
Tesla Motors says they will start taking orders in the spring of 2015 and until then they will put the finishing touches on the new battery package.
