Toyota details the GT86 CS-R3 rally car
Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) was in charge of developing the GT86 CS-R3 which was designed to meet FIA’s R3 class requirements. Its heart and soul is the same 2.0-liter boxer 4-cylinder horizontally-opposed gasoline engine but instead of 197 bhp (147 kW) in the road-going version it now churns 240-250 bhp (179-186 kW). This was possible by updating the software of the engine and also by revising the cam-lift and compression ratio. All that power is transferred to the rear wheels via a sequential six-speed gearbox and a limited-slip differential boasting variable ramp settings.
The Toyota GT86 CS-R3 has a HJS racing exhaust system and a bespoke exhaust manifold and rides on 17-inch or 15-inch OZ alloy wheels. It benefits from a MacPherson front suspension combined with a double wishbone rear setup while inside there is a lightweight R3 safety cage homologated by FIA. Toyota hasn’t specified the exact weight of the car but according to R3 regulations, it has a minimum weight of 1,080 kg.
Customer deliveries of the track-only GT86 will commence in Q1 2015, with pricing to be similar compared to other R3 vehicles.
