Volkswagen Golf GTE plug-in hybrid rumored to come out this year
Volkswagen is allegedly working on a plug-in hybrid version of the Golf set to receive the GTE nameplate when it comes out later this year. Its heart and soul will be a TFSI 4-cylinder 1.4-liter engine outputting 150 HP which works with an electric motor rated at 102 HP. This hardware arrangement enables the plug-in hybrid Golf to offer a combined output of 204 HP and 258 lb-ft. More importantly, the car will allegedly return an impressive 188 mpg UK (156.5 mpg US or 1.5 liters / 100 km) with 35 g/km of CO2 emissions.
The same report mentions a 31-mile (50 km) electric range and a top speed of 31 miles (50 km) when running only on electric power. The Volkswagen Golf GTE will complete the 0-100 km/h run in 7.6 seconds when working as a hybrid.
