Volkswagen releases more photos and video with Taigun Concept
You might remember the Volkswagen Taigun Concept from last year’s Sao Paolo Motor Show, a concept which has strong chances of entering production sometime in 2016. VW has released this week additional photos with the up!-based concept which allegedly in production guise will not reach stateside because VW believes there aren’t any customers there who would want a small compact crossover powered by a three-cylinder gasoline or diesel engine. Some reports are indicating the left-hand production model will be made in Sao Paolo, Brazil, while the right-hand version will be made in Pune, India. Kaluga, Russia production is also being considered.
The Volkswagen Taigun Concept is riding on the same PQ12 platform which was used for the up! city car. However, wheelbase has grown by two inches to 97.2 inches, whereas both track widths have been left untouched. Gearbox choices will include a six-speed manual offered as standard, along with an optional dual-clutch ‘box. A natural gas variant is rumored to be in the pipeline, while full electric and gasoline-electric hybrid models are analyzed.
If we were to describe the car’s styling, it does show some strong resemblances to the Romanian budget off-roader, the Dacia Duster.
