Volkswagen reveals Passat BlueMotion concept
Volkswagen will be showing at next week’s NAIAS automotive show in Detroit the Passat BlueMotion concept which serves as a preview for a very possible production model due in the United States later this year.
The vehicle is wearing an attractive Reef Blue Metallic exterior paint scheme and has received a different front grille together with a rear spoiler lip.
For the cabin it adopts a two-tone arrangement with leather-covered seats, a carbon fiber-like trim and glossy black accents.
At its heart is a 1.4-liter TSI gasoline turbocharged engine delivering 150 bhp and a maximum torque of 184 lb-ft sent to the front axle through a DSG transmission. The power unit benefits from a start & stop system, direct injection as well as an Active Cylinder Management system which at low speeds will turn off two of the cylinders to boost fuel economy.
Thanks to these modifications, Volkswagen says the Passat BlueMotion concept can return 42 mpg US (50.4 mpg UK or 5.6 liters / 100 km) on the highway.
