Volkswagen unveils Cross Coupe GTE concept in Detroit
Volkswagen is presenting these days in Detroit at 2015 NAIAS the Cross Coupe GTE concept which previews a crossover for North America. It’s a five-seater high-riding model with LED headlights flanking an aluminum front grille while on the sides we notice the muscular fenders. It sits on massive 22-inch alloy wheels and has received a tailgate-mounted spoiler, sloping roofline and powerful character lines. On the inside it gets aluminum accents, a glossy black trim, semi-aniline Nappa leather-covered seats and a digital instrument cluster. There’s also an infotainment system packing a 10.1-inch color touchscreen display.
The Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE concept is motivated by a plug-in hybrid setup which includes a V6 3.6-liter engine working with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack which has a capacity of 14.1 kWh. The concept has an impressive combined output of 355 bhp and 280 lb-ft which is enough for a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in 6 seconds. Used as a hybrid it returns 70 MPGe while in electric mode it has a maximum range of 20 miles (32 km).
The Cross Coupe GTE concept will receive a production version for the 2017MY with seven seats and will be assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
