Volkswagen XL1 to be offered only with a lease scheme
There are big chances of seeing the Volkswagen XL1 available exclusively as part of a lease program. This piece of news comes from Mark Gilles who is VW of America’s manager of product and technology communications. In an interview given to journalists at Autoblog Green he explained that the extremely economical XL1 “will most likely be a lease scheme.” When the car debuted at the Geneva Motor Show back in March, the German automaker said they will produce an initial batch of 50 units, with further cars to be built only on demand. No word about pricing yet.
As a reminder and to refresh your memory, the frugal VW XL1 is powered by a small 800cc 2-cylinder TDI engine producing 47 bhp which works together with an electric motor that generates an additional 27 bhp. The XL1 is fitted with a 5.5 kWh battery and has a fuel consumption of just 0.9 liters / 100 km (261 mpg US or 313 mpg UK). CO2 emissions stand at only 21 g/km.
