2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG breaks cover

Mercedes-Benz introduced today the S63 AMG which represents the range-topping version of the recently unveiled S-Class.

The most significant change over its lesser models would have to be the V8 5.5-liter twin-turbo Euro 6-compliant engine which in this model has been tuned to output 585 bhp (436 kW) and a maximum torque of 664 lb-ft (900 Nm).

It works in conjunction with a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT gearbox which enables both short wheelbase and long wheelbase models jump to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.4 seconds.

There’s also the all-wheel drive 4MATIC version available exclusively in the LWB version where it performs the sprint in only 4 seconds.

The new S63 AMG has lost up to 100 kg (220 lbs) in comparison to its predecessor thanks to a 20 kg (44 lbs) lighter lithium-ion battery, lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels and a carbon fiber-made spare wheel recess. As a result of this diet, the 2014 S63 AMG in its short wheelbase configuration weighs 1,970 kg (4,343 lbs) with a 90 percent-filled gas tank, but not including luggage and driver.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG will be showcased in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, before going on sale a couple of months later.
