BMW unveils first ever 2-Series Convertible
Launched as a replacement for the 1-Series Convertible, BMW’s first ever 2-Series Convertible is programmed to go on sale February next year and will feature a retractable soft top. It has a multi-layer fabric configuration and needs 20 seconds to open/close while customers can get to choose from three different paints: black (standard), brown with silver effect and anthracite with silver effect. The vehicle benefits from extra insulation which has lowered front and rear noise by 5 dB and 7 dB, respectively. The soft top can be operated remotely and while driving it can be lowered or raised at speeds of up to 30 mph.
BMW will be offering multiple engine choices such as the four-cylinder 2.0-liter producing 184 PS and 270 Nm in the 220i and 245 PS & 350 Nm in the 228i. There’s also a 220d variant that has an inline-four 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine generating 190 PS & 400 Nm. The range-topping M235i model makes use of a larger inline-six 3.0-liter turbo unleashing 326 PS & 450 Nm which grants a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 5.2 seconds with the standard six-speed manual gearbox or in 5 seconds with the optional eight-speed automatic.
Prices kick off at $38,850 for the 228i model which can be had with optional xDrive from $40,650. The aforementioned M235i begins at $48,650.
