160 HP 1.6-liter twin turbodiesel engine launched by Renault
Renault will soon be offering a brand new 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter twin turbocharged diesel engine for its D- and E-segment models. The engine has a 1,598cc block and is rated at 160 HP while the maximum torque stands at 380 Nm. According to Renault, these output figures match those that you would normally fin in a 2.0-liter engine but thanks to the lower capacity the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are 25 percent lower.
The new engine is called 1.6-liter Energy dCi 160 Twin Turbo and comes with a low inertia that provides 90 percent of the torque from only 1,500 rpm. As for the second turbo, this goes in action at the higher-end of the rpm range and promises to provide the vehicle with a linear and smooth acceleration. Renault says this new engine provides better cooling as well as less friction so it should be able to provide a more comfortable ride.
