The DC Avanti has received a special edition that comes with a significant power boost. It has the same 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine sourced from Renault, but its output has increased from the stock 250 hp to 310 hp. Just like the regular model, the motor works with a six-speed manual gearbox, but now DC Design is offering the model with an optional six-speed automated manual transmission that they say was created in-house. To go along with the added muscle, the sportscar developed in India has a slightly more aggressive body featuring carbon fiber sill extensions, front splitter and rear diffuser. You will also notice the carbon rear wing and the car also sits lower than before.
DC Design will only make 31 units of the DC Avanti Special Edition and the model is slated to enter production phase in April next year. All the cars will be offered with a selection of three color combos: white & blue, grey & orange and grey & green. In addition, it features stiffer anti-roll bars and some tweaks inside the cabin such as updated TFT sporty dials, leather-wrapped steering wheel and Alcantara-covered sport seats.
It will only be sold in India and pricing begins from the equivalent of around $65,800.
Land Rover has managed to auction off the Defender 2,000,000 for no less than £400,000. The sale took place this week at a Bonhams charity auction and the winning bidder has wished to remain anonymous, but we do know he is from Qatar. Chances are we are dealing with the most expensive production Land Rover ever sold and the good news is the money will go to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Born Free Foundation. The funds will be utilized to help out the communities in the South-East Nepal region and also to support the Project Lion Rover wildlife conservation initiative that takes place in Kenya at the Meru National Park.
The car in question is the 2,000,000th Defender built by Land Rover at the famous factory in Solihull. The vehicle was assembled back in May with help from Land Rover ambassadors such as Bear Grylls as well as by the sons of the company’s founder Maurice Wilks. Compared to the regular Defender, this one comes with special badging, an engraved map of Red Wharf Bay, different seats and an aluminum plaque signed by those involved in the building process.
The Defender will be discontinued early next year and it won’t be until 2017 or 2018 when a new generation will be launched.
Following an online reveal last month, the Fenyr SuperSport is making a comeback in a set of live images. The hypercar is actually follow-up to the Lykan HyperSport that was featured in Furious 7, but now its successor is even more powerful and a lot faster. Its heart and soul is a 4.0-liter flat-six, twin-turbo engine developed by RUF to generate a massive 900 hp and a peak torque of 1,400 Nm. All that power is channeled to the road with help from a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Thanks to its carbon fiber construction, the vehicle tips the scales at just 1,200 kg.
It’s no wonder the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run takes just 2.7 seconds and the vehicle is capable of topping out at more than 249 mph (400 km/h). W Motors says the Fenyr SuperSport will be limited to only 25 cars and they say the vehicle was developed in collaboration with Magna Steyr and StudioTorino.
It will be interesting to see whether the vehicle will be featured in the eighth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise set to air on April 14, 2017. The Lykan HyperSport made a big splash in Furious 7, so Fenyr SuperSport could be featured in the next movie.
The 2016 Mercedes GLA has arrived in United States where it has received a series of updates for the new model year. The small crossover now comes with more standard equipment as the model has gained push-button ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control system and seats that have a cushion length adjustment. Moreover, the vehicle will get a new infotainment system packing a 7-inch screen, media interface and pre-wiring for the Garmin Map Pilot navigation system. We should point out the power passenger seat is now available as a standalone option as Mercedes has made some changes to the packages and options.
The 2016 Mercedes GLA can be ordered with a fresh Kryptonite Green metallic paint scheme while on the inside a new beige/black leather upholstery has replaced the old gray finish. The Agility Select system has been replaced by Dynamic Select and it comes with four different modes: Comfort, ECO, Sport, and Sport+.
Power comes from a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo engine with 208 hp and 258 lb-ft sent to the front wheels or to an optional 4MATIC setup through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. You can upgrade to the GLA45 which has a beefier 2.0-liter turbo pushing out 355 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. This one will cover the 0-60 mph run in only 4.8 seconds.
The Fiat Toro compact pickup truck is back in another official image prior its market launch set for early 2016. The attached image was released by the company’s Brazil division where the model will be produced locally for the South American market, with details about an expanded availability not available right now. It has what it takes to be one of the most appealing models in its segment and you will notice it comes with a split tailgate that we have seen before on the Lincoln Blackwood. The vehicle shown here is a range-topping variant that comes with a 4×4 setup and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Power comes from a four-cylinder, 16v 2.0-liter Multijet turbodiesel engine with 170 hp.
The Fiat Toro in this specification is equipped with large 18-inch alloys and has received xenon headlights along with an off-road suspension, parking sensors and the very useful Hill Descent Control system. We are still waiting to see the interior cabin, but hopefully it will be just as nice as the exterior design which will probably make the model a big hit in its segment.
More images should be released very soon taking into account production has already started in Brazil.
The Rinspeed Etos is a rather interesting concept based on the BMW i8 and equipped with autonomous driving technology. It looks substantially different than the regular i8 as it has gained a brand new exterior and a glass roof. It sits on Borbet GTX 20-inch wheels and comes with a specially-made drone landing platform that has no less than 12,000 individually-controlled LEDs which double as an electronic message board. The concept was envisioned with a DJI quadcopter in charge of picking up deliveries or to go above the car to livestream the trip.
The interior cabin is just as special as the exterior as the Rinspeed Etos comes with a brand new dashboard that incorporates two massive 21.5-inch screens and a retracting & folding steering wheel. It comes with numerous ceramic accents, titanium pedals, bespoke seats, along with a high-end Harman infotainment system.
To monitor the vehicle’s surroundings, Rinspeed has fitted 8 HD exterior cameras and there’s also a gaze-tracking system that monitors the driver’s eye movements. The system can automatically send out warnings in case the driver has missed to see a potential hazard up ahead.
The Rinspeed Etos will be showcased in January at the 2016 Consumers Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
Infiniti has taken the wraps off the 2016 QX60 facelift that will be shown next month in Detroit during NAIAS. It looks overly familiar, but we do notice the slightly refreshed front fascia with a different grille flanked by bi-xenon headlights that integrate LED daytime running lights. It has gained LED fog lights, more chrome exterior trim and a shark fin antenna. The interior has been largely carried over, but there’s a new gear knob and more soft-touch plastic materials. Infiniti has upgraded the tri-zone automatic climate control system and have added more USB charging ports as well as acoustic glass for the windows.
The 2016 QX60 facelift will be available with a V6 3.5-liter engine producing 265 hp (197 kW) and a maximum torque of 336 Nm (248 lb-ft). There’s also a hybrid version mixing up a 4-cylinder, 2.5-liter supercharged engine with an electric motor to enable a combined 250 hp (186 kW) and 329 Nm (243 lb-ft). The model comes as standard with a FWD layout, but for more money you can go for an all-wheel drive arrangement.
The new model year brings revised suspension springs and shock absorbers that enable a smoother ride and reduce body roll. The power steering system has also been retuned and should be more responsive than before.
The 2016 Infiniti Q50 is here and ready to show its newly developed V6 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine. The motor is capable of producing 300 hp (224 kW) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) which is more than decent. However, should the power not suffice, there’s a stronger configuration of the same motor with 400 hp (298 kW) and 475 Nm (350 lb-ft). Infiniti is also adding a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo engine that pumps out 208 hp (155 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft). You can also get it as a hybrid with a V6 3.5-liter working with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. This one will reward you with a combined output of 360 hp (268 kW).
Regardless of engine choice, the 2016 Infiniti Q50 comes exclusively with a 7-speed automatic gearbox that has a manual shift mode and comes with paddle shifters mounted on the steering column. At an additional cost, these engines can send the power to an all-wheel drive arrangement to improve traction.
There’s not much going on in terms of design updates. But the 400 bhp model has bespoke 19-inch rims and different exhaust tips. Owners will be able to get the Q50 with a new Premium Plus Package adding a split-folding rear seat, electrically-adjustable steering wheel, heated steering wheel, and heated front seats. It also has power lumbar support for the driver’s seat, auto-dimming exterior mirrors and the Infiniti InTouch infotainment system.
The 2017 Mercedes SLC has made its online debut and is now heading to NAIAS in Detroit next month before going on sale in the spring. This is basically a facelifted version of the SLK and has received the SLC moniker to better show it has just about the same size as the C-Class. It adopts a slightly modified exterior with sportier bumpers, LED headlights & taillights, integrated dual exhaust system, and an upgraded electrically-retractable hardtop that can be operated at speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph). The interior has remained mostly the same, but we do see a new steering wheel, aluminum trim, modified instrument cluster, along with a 7-inch COMAND infotainment system.
The US-spec model will be offered as a SLC 300 with a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbo producing 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque sent to the road through a 9-speed automatic gearbox. In this version, the SLC will need 5.7 seconds for the 0-60 mph sprint before topping out at 130 mph (209 km/h).
There’s also the new SLC 43 with a twin-turbo V6 3.0-liter motor rated at 362 hp (270 kW) and 384 lb-ft (520 Nm). This one replaces the SLK 55 AMG and according to Mercedes it covers the sprint in 4.6 seconds and can do 155 mph (250 km/h).
New details are starting to emerge about the 2017 Opel Insignia scheduled to come out in the second half of next year. According to Auto Bild, the new mid-size sedan is going to be bigger than the outgoing model as the report specifies will be stretched by 15 cm and 9 cm of that will be in the wheelbase. The design of the car is also set for a major overhaul and it is believed the new model will look considerably sleeker with a Monza-inspired front end, a sloping roofline and a long rear overhang. This will create the illusion of a four-door coupe for the sedan and it will be followed by a wagon that will have a much bigger trunk than the current model.
Power of the 2017 Opel Insignia will allegedly come from a new family of 3- and 4-cylinder turbocharged engines, starting off with a 1.0-liter. There’s also going to be a bi-turbodiesel unit with 160 hp, a standard front-wheel drive layout and an optional AWD setup. The Insignia OPC is said to return with a six-cylinder turbo engine that will have somewhere in the region of 400 hp.
Chances are the standard Insignia will be unveiled in October 2016 at the Paris Motor Show.
