2014 Chevrolet Spark EV debuts before L.A. show

Chevrolet was eager to present its upcoming EV version of the 2014 Spark and revealed preliminary information and first official photos before the car makes it public debut at the end of the month when the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show starts.

At its core there’s an oil-cooled, permanent magnet motor producing 134 hp and an instant torque of 400 lb-ft. The car can do the 0-62 mph sprint in less than 8 seconds according to General Motors.

The necessary juice to run the car is received from a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery pack located under the rear seat bench and a bit into the boot area. The vehicle will be offered later on after its launch with a SAE combo charger than can fill the batteries up to an 80 percent level in only 20 minutes or so. Using a regular 240V charge, the batteries can be filled in less than seven hours.

General Motors is offering an 8-year / 100,000 miles warranty protection for the Spark’s battery.
