Hyundai launches more frugal 2015 Sonata Eco, returns 32 mpg

Hyundai has introduced a more economical version of the Sonata in United States called “Eco” which kicks off at $23,275, excluding the $810 destination charges. At its heart is a thrifty 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline motor developing 177 bhp and 195 lb-ft channeled to the front axle via a new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Thanks to this hardware arrangement, the model can 28 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway which translates into 32 mpg in the combined cycle, a figure that Hyundai says it’s class-leading.

This makes the model around ten percent more economical compared to the 2015MY Sonata SE equipped with a 2.4-liter Theta II engine rated at 185 bhp. Those who are willing to pay more, Hyundai is offering an optional Technology Package bringing dual automatic temperature control, 8-inch touchscreen navigation display, blind spot detection system and leather upholstery. This package also contains chrome exterior door handles with welcome light, rear-cross traffic alert and lane change assist.

Hyundai says the 2015 Sonata Eco will enter production at the firm’s factory in Alabama later in the summer.
