Renault introduces Alpine Celebration concept

Renault has launched this past weekend the Alpine Celebration concept at Le Mans. It represents an evolution of the 2012 A110-50 concept and acts a 60th anniversary of the Alpine name and it also previews an upcoming Alpine production model set to go on sale next year. It adopts a retro design with modern cues and takes its inspiration from the A110 and A310 concepts of the 1970s. Noticeable features include a fixed rear wing together with a large diffuser boasting a fog light and being flanked by dual exhaust tips. The brakes come with orange calipers while the body has been finished in a blue & orange paint scheme.

Renault hasn’t specified what powers the Alpine Celebration concept but our money is on either a 1.6-liter turbo from the Clio RS or a larger 2.0-liter turbo sourced from the Megane RS. Regardless of the engine’s identity, it likely works with a dual-clutch gearbox as there are slim chances of seeing a six-speed manual transmission being offered.

The production model based on the Alpine Celebration concept could be called AS1 and will have a rear-wheel drive, mid-engined layout with a curb weight estimated at just 1,100 kg. It will be introduced sometime next year, possibly in the first half before going on sale shortly thereafter.
