Mazda3 to gain a new 1.5-liter turbodiesel engine

The Mazda3 will be available starting December 1 with a newly developed Skyactiv-D 1.5-liter turbodiesel engine. It can be installed in the hatchback and fastback models where it develops 105 PS at 4,000 rpm and 270 Nm of torque at 1,600 rpm sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox. This hardware arrangement allows the model to return 74.3 mpg UK in the combined cycle and have CO2 emissions of 99 g/km. Those who opt for the hatchback will be able to get the engine with a six-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of performance, the Mazda3 with the 1.5-liter turbodiesel engine needs 11 seconds for the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run and can achieve a top speed of 116 mph (187 km/h). The Japanese automaker mentions the new Skyactiv-D motor was created with the same Defy Convention approach as the bigger Skyactiv-D 2.2 and comes with a low compression ratio of 14.8:1 to make it more efficient while maintaining performances.

The turbodiesel engine is available across the entire Mazda3 trim levels and you can get it from a starting price of £18,895. Deliveries in United Kingdom will likely start at the beginning of next year and other European countries will follow shortly.
