Hennessey Venom GT hits 300 km/h in 13.63sec

Today we bring you one of the most impressive acceleration-related performances ever seen. The car being showcased is the 2012 Hennessey Venom GT which is based on the Lotus Elise/Exige platform. The American tuner has managed to establish a new 0-300 km/h (186 mph) record with this heavily modified car, completing the run in just 13.63 seconds. This is an official record as confirmed by the Guinness World Records. The performance was achieved earlier this year in Texas, U.S. at the Ellington Airport. It is important to mention that Hennessey will launch a follow-up model which will be known as the Venom GT2.

Under the hood it will boast a massive bi-turbo 7.0-liter V8 engine which will unleash no less than 1,500 hp or 1,118 kW, which will make it a full 300 hp or 224 kW more powerful than the record-breaking car. This power unit will be linked to either a six-speed Ricardo manual gearbox or a new seven-speed paddle-shift transmission. Other than that, it will boast a double bubble roof in order to increase headroom.

The Venom GT2 will feature a carbon fiber body and a new door design with dihedral hinges. Hennessey is also working on new front air dams, mirrors, while the active rear wing will be retained. The first car will arrive in late 2013 and should cost $1,250,000.
