At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show scheduled for next month, Ingolstadt-based automaker Audi will be bringing this A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid model. Under the hood is a retuned version of the firm’s 1.4-liter TFSI engine which is now capable of delivering 150 HP (110 kW). There’s also an electric motor outputting an extra 102 HP (75 kW).
As a result, the combined output of the German plug-in hybrid hatchback stands at 204 HP (150 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. Power is channeled to front wheels with the help of a newly developed dual-clutch, 6-speed e-S tronic gearbox.
The 2013 Audi A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid will do the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in 7.6 seconds en route to a top speed of 138 mph (222 km/h). Audi says the car can return 156.8 mpg US (188.3 mpg UK or 1.5 liters / 100 km) while CO2 emissions stand at only 35 g/km.
The driver can choose to drive the car with only the combustion engine running, only the electric motor or in hybrid mode. When electric mode is chosen, the A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid can provide a range of up to 31 miles (50 km) and is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 81 mph (130 km/h).
