BMW M6 GT3 breaks cover ahead of 2016 racing debut
Here is the brand new BMW M6 GT3 in race specification prior to its competition debut set for next year. It’s based on the road-going M6 Coupe but it has gone through an extensive weight loss program as now the vehicle tips the scales at less than 1,300 kg. With a starting net price of €379,000, it certainly doesn’t come cheap but you do get the best BMW’s motorsport division can offer and according to the Bavarian marque the running costs will actually be 30% lower in comparison to the Z4 GT3 which will be replaced starting 2016 by this new M6 GT3.
At its heart is an adaptation of the M6 Coupe’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine which depending on the vehicle’s classification it will generate up to 585 bhp transferred to the wheels with help from a six-speed sequential transmissions that together with the engine has been tweaked specifically for racing application.
The BMW M6 GT3 has already participated in an extensive test program on lots of circuits from all over the world and back in May it was shown to BMW Motorsports customers at the Nürburgring circuit during the famous 24-hour endurance race and chances are some of them made a deposit at that point for the new track beast.
