Japanese marque Mazda has revealed its intentions of introducing a CNG concept of the Mazda3 at next month’s Tokyo Motor Show in Japan. This announcement comes after approximately one week since Mazda launched the hybrid derivative of the new Mazda3. As far as the CNG version is concerned, the concept will implement a dual fuel system which will allow it to run on gasoline as well as on compressed natural gas (CNG). Judging by these photos, the CNG concept will be exhibited on the sedan variant of the Mazda3.
According to the company, they only had to do minor modifications to make the car CNG compatible thanks to the fact that the SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine boasts a high compression ratio which is suitable for CNG-running engines since these will burn fuel at a higher pressure compared to regular gasoline engines.
Mazda has not confirmed whether they have plans to put the concept in production but we assume this will hit the market sooner or later as Mazda recognizes the potential of CNG cars since this niche has increased in popularity in recent period.
