Ford has released this week preliminary information about the upcoming 2014 Ecosport which is scheduled to go on sale in the spring of 2014. This would have to be a two-wheel drive Fiesta-based SUV that measures just less than four meters and has a 200mm ground clearance.
The vehicle was initially developed by Ford’s Brazilian division exclusively for the South American version but this latest iteration of the model will found its way in the United Kingdom.
As you would expect, the car has been engineered and styled in order to match the tastes of the European customers.
This is good news not only for the European customers but also for those living in Brazil or other countries from South America as the updated version will also go on sale there. However, there’s a difference as European buyers will get more choices as far as the engines are concerned. No confirmed details at the moment of writing but expect to see a 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine with 100 hp and a beefier 1.6-liter gasoline unit with 125 hp.
For the Brazilian market, Ford offers a four-wheel drive model but there are no details about whether this version will make its way to the European market. When the Ford Ecosport will go on sale in 2014, the Blue Oval will replace today’s 1.4- and 1.6-liter engines in favor of a new 1.5-liter TDCi which most likely will be offered for this Fiesta-based SUV.
