Lexus reveals IS 200t for Europe
Lexus has taken the wraps off the IS 200t for the European market. It’s bound to hit dealerships this September and will be equipped with a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 245 PS (180 kW) at 5,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) from 1,650 rpm. Power is channeled to the wheels with help from an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift gearbox that allows the vehicle to run the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 7 seconds before topping out at 143 mph (230 km/h). Lexus says that fitted with this engine, the IS will have a fuel consumption of 7 liters / 100 km (33.6 mpg US or 40.3 mpg UK).
There aren’t any details about an optional all-wheel drive setup which means Lexus plans on offering the IS 200t only with a rear-wheel drive layout. Aside from getting a new Euro 6 compliant engine, the model will also benefit from 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels while the interior cabin has been carried over from the other models.
It should be mentioned this is the third Lexus model equipped with this new engine, after the NX 200t introduced earlier this year and the RX 200t due to go on sale by the end of 2015.
