Mercedes-Benz introduces SLS AMG GT3 45th Anniversary limited edition
2012 marks the 45th anniversary of AMG and as a way of celebrating this Mercedes-Benz decided to launch a special edition of the SLS AMG GT3 called the 45th Anniversary. Targeted “at car collectors with a particular penchant for motor racing”, this limited edition consists of only five units which will feature the same V8 6.3-liter engine that is installed with the assistance of Bernd Schneider who managed to win five DTM titles and the FIA GT championship back in 1995. Schneider and the engineer will both put their signatures on the car’s V8 engine. This limited edition of the SLS AMG GT3 carries a price tag of 446,250 euros ($579,000) in Germany, including VAT and most likely these will be soon accounted for, despite the hefty sticker price.
Mercedes-Benz used a “design magno graphite” matte paint for the car’s bodywork and the alloy wheels, the same hue seen last April during the New York Auto Show when the German carmaker showcased the SL 65 AMG. Other features worth mentioning include the carbon fiber reinforced plastic used for the hood, gullwing doors, boot lid, mudguards, front & rear spoilers, rear wings and also for the rear diffuser.
Inside the cabin you get the typical racing car layout, but with a few highlights such as the design magno graphite finish for the steel rollover cage, silver 6-point harnesses and steering wheel, along with a carbon fiber finish for the center console and the dashboard. There’s also a carbon fiber safety cell and a bunch of logos so that you don’t forget that you’re dealing with a limited edition vehicle.
