Mercedes-Benz launches armored S600 Guard
Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the S600 Guard, an armored version of the company’s flagship model which offers the highest ballistic protection in VR9 resistance class. Many of the components have been manufactured from a special type of steel found in the cavities between the vehicle’s body structure and outer skin. Some parts are made from aramide and polyethylene in order to improve splinter protection. All glass surfaces are now coated with polycarbonate on the inside and they also boast a laminated structure. The vehicle can be had as a four or five seat and comes with a trunk offering 350 liters of storage.
Under the hood it’s a twin-turbo V12 6.0-liter engine taken from the regular S600 where it develops 530 PS (390 kW) and a maximum torque of 830 Nm (612 lb-ft). Since this is a “Guard” model, it comes with equipment specific to armored cars such as the heated windscreen and side windows, opaque roller blinds, a panic alarm system, hydraulic side windows, emergency fresh air system and gimbal rear LED reading lamps.
