Aside from introducing the first ever Nismo-prepared version of the GT-R, Nissan also revealed today the slightly revised 2014 GT-R. As far as the design is concerned, the exterior look of the Japanese supercar hasn’t been changed that much, with the exception of the updated taillights and the high-intensity multi-LED headlights. In addition, customers will have the possibility of ordering the 2014 GT-R with a new Gold Flake Red Pearl exterior paint scheme which can be seen in these official images provided by Nissan. On the inside there is a new pale ivory trim option, along with semi-aniline leather-wrapped seats that come with stitched accents.
The 2014 Nissan GT-R is programmed to go on sale at home in Japan on December 2nd and will pack an overhauled suspension that encompasses front stabilizer spring rates plus updated shock absorbers. It now has Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 DST CTT tires and an updated steering system. Nissan’s engineers have also done some work to the braking system.
At this year’s Chicago Auto Show, Japanese car manufacturer Nissan has launched a new edition of the popular GT-R that goes by the name of Track Edition. It is scheduled to hit the firm’s dealers all around the world this May and will be sold in the U.S. in only 150 units. At its heart is the same V6 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine pumping out 545 hp (406 kW) and a peak torque of 627 Nm (463 lb-ft). The mill is linked to a dual clutch, 6-speed sequential gearbox which is capable of changing the gears in just 0.15 seconds. Customers will have to choose from these paint schemes: Deep Blue Pearl, Gun Metallic, Jet Black, Solid Red and Pearl White.
The special edition is distinguished by the absence of the rear seats which have been replaced by quilted cloth math which Nissan says it’s very lightweight. Other than that, the GT-R Track Edition has carbon fiber front and rear spoiler, higher grip front seats, a stiffer suspension setup, custom brake cooling guides and 6-spoke forged wheels wrapped around in Dunlop run-flat high-performance, nitrogen-filled tires. The wheels along with the rear spoiler are also available on the Nissan GT-R Black Edition available in select markets, including United States.
The 2014 GT-R has finally arrived in the United States where it sees yet another price hike which certainly won’t be to the liking of many potential customers. When it was introduced back in 2008 it was available for $69,850 but with the years passing by, it now costs $99,590, not taking into consideration the yet undisclosed destination charge. The increased price tag does bring a couple of additional stuff as the V6 twin-turbo engine with its 545 hp is now providing a better response in mid- and upper-rpm ranges. In addition, the GT-R’s handling has also been improved thanks to new springs, absorbers and a revised front anti-roll bar.
Thanks to these changes, the car’s center of gravity has been lowered which in return should improve handling. If you are willing to spend more, you can opt for the Black Edition model which begins at $109,300 and comes with an engraved aluminum plate showing the name of the person who built the engine. In addition, the higher-end model has a Premium Interior Package with hand-stitched red leather seats and a color pattern for the sports steering wheel.
Aside from revealing the GT-R’s price tag, Nissan also disclosed the price of the 2014 Murano CrossCabriolet which begins from $41,995, making it $2,545 cheaper than the outgoing 2013MY.
The Japanese automaker Nissan has unveiled the 2014MY GT-R which brings several technical modifications, while the bodywork has remained virtually the same. Most of the tweaks are derived from the lessons learned after the firm competed with a standard vehicle at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring this year. The first modification they made is to lower the car’s roll center and they did this by changing some of the front suspension settings which Nissan says have improved stability at high speeds. The output of the engine has remained untouched but the response has been improved while the 0-62 mph sprint is now done in 2.7 seconds (0.1 quicker).
Nissan says that the revamped GT-R is now capable of doing a lap of the Nürburgring in 7 minutes 18.6 seconds which makes it a full 20 seconds faster than the original GT-R which came out back in 2007. Other modifications worth mentioning include the new oil pan baffle which can better maintain more stable oil pressure and also it can diminish rotational friction. Stability while cornering and camber accuracy have been improved by installing new cam bolts on the GT-R’s front suspension.
In addition, Nissan’s engineers have made some reinforcements to the dash panel bar and instrument panel member which have improved suspension control and also increased body rigidity. The new high output injectors have improved mid- and high-range response, while the new relief valve for the turbocharger bypass has decreased forced injection pressure.
