Chevrolet has disclosed performance specs of the recently launched 2014 Corvette Z51. They say during testing the model was capable of performing the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in only 3.8 seconds and needed just 12 seconds to complete the quarter mile. It stopped from 60 mph to 0 in 32.6 meters (107 feet) while on the skid pad it generated forces of 1.03 G. In addition, Chevrolet says the car lapped the Virginia International Raceway in 2:51.78, making it almost seven seconds quicker than the Camaro 1LE. For those of you that don’t know, the Virginia International Raceway Grand Course is 6.7 km (4.2 miles) long.
Powering the Corvette Z51 is the same V8 6.2-liter which churns 455 bhp (339 kW) and a maximum torque of 624 Nm (460 lb-ft). This Z51 Performance Package will set you back an extra $2,800 but in return you’ll get goodies such as an electronic limited-slip differential, aerodynamic styling updates, better cooling system and a dry-slump oiling system. The car which they used for testing also had the optional Magnetic Ride Control which costs $1,795. As a reminder, the standard Corvette Stingray is available from a starting price of $51,995.
