Tesla Model S electrifies a 2013 BMW M5 in a drag race
Although not many people are big fans of electric fans, we all have to admit that Tesla Motors has done a pretty amazing job with the Model S. The editors from Automobile magazine took the Signature Performance version of this battery-operated car and a 2013 BMW M5 to find out which one is the fastest in a drag race. To the surprise of many, the electric car managed to win the very close race, thanks to its rear-mounted electric motor that generates 416 hp and an instant torque of 443 lb-ft. This is an impressive performance taking into account that the new M5 has a V8 4.4-liter twin-turbo power unit with 560 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. The M5 in the following clip costs $106,695, while the Model S (Signature Performance) is $102,270.
