Volkswagen GRC Beetle races into Chicago
Volkswagen has joined forces with Andretti Autosport to develop a high-performance version of the Beetle called GRC. The model is being showcased at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show and will take part into the Red Bull Global Rallycross series. Its heart and soul is a TSI turbocharged gasoline engine developing more than 560 bhp (417 kW). Power is sent to an all-wheel drive setup and it could very well be the most powerful and probably the quickest Beetle ever made.
The Volkswagen GRC Beetle is going to be driven by Scott Speed and Tanner Foust and will compete under the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross banner. It is important to mention that at first the team is going to race with modified Polo race cars while the switch to the GRC Beetle will be made around midseason.
