2013 Volkswagen Amarok now available with a 2.0-liter BiTDI engine
Announced back in August, the 2013 Volkswagen Amarok is currently available on order in the UK, with a starting price of 23,536 pounds for the entry-level version fitted with a 2.0-liter TDI engine with 120 hp and 4Motion. The flagship variant costs 31,098 pounds and it brings a new 2.0-liter BiTDI engine with 178 hp, 4Motion and BlueMotion tech. This power unit is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission sending the power to all four wheels. The Amarok was manufactured exclusively in Argentina and all vehicles for the European market were shipped from there. VW has decided to start making the Amarok in Hanover, Germany.
The German carmaker has implemented its BlueMotion package on this vehicle, bringing the stop/start system, low-rolling resistance tires and regenerative braking – all for cutting down fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
The aforementioned 2.0-liter BiTDI engine can be ordered with the BlueMotion package, allowing the vehicle to be 3.9 percent more frugal compared to the previous 161 hp model, managing to return 37.2 mpg UK as opposed to the previous 35.8 mpg UK figure. In addition, CO2 emissions have also gone down from 209 g/km to 199 g/km.
Volkswagen says that the Amarok’s towing capabilities have increased from 2,800 kg to 3,000 kg for the versions equipped with a manual transmission, while the ones with the 8-speed automatic gearbox can tow up to 3,200 kg.
Other goodies added include 19-inch alloys, cornering fog lights, heated washer jets, front & rear parking sensors, Bluetooth and tachograph preparation.
