Volkswagen Amarok receives another update

About three months ago we talked about the Volkswagen Amarok receiving a minor update and now the German firm has decided to make additional modifications to its pickup truck. The version launched in November came with an entry-level TDI 2.0-liter pumping out 120 hp, along with a new 2.0-liter BiTDI with 178 hp. Starting with this February, the Amarok is no longer available with the base 120 hp diesel engine as it is being replaced by a more powerful diesel with common-rail injection and the same displacement, producing an extra 18 hp for a total of 138 hp and a maximum torque of 251 lb-ft (340 Nm) which is available between 1,600 rpm and 2,250 rpm.

Thanks to the added horsepower, the entry-level Volkswagen Amarok is able to complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 12.6 seconds, making it 0.6 seconds quicker than its predecessor. The old one was able to reach a top speed of 101 mph (162 km/h) whereas the new model can hit 104 mph (168 km/h). In addition, Volkswagen says that 80 km/h to 120 km/h time has been reduced by 0.5 seconds in 5th gear.

Despite the additional horsepower available, the fuel consumption of the base Amarok has remained unchanged which means the pick-up truck can return 34.6 mpg (41.6 mpg UK or 6.8 liters / 100 km) when equipped with the BlueMotion Technology package which is an optional feature.

The vehicle has also received additional equipment as it now has ParkPilot with reversing camera, RNS 510 radio-navigation system, fog lights with cornering lights, programmable auxiliary heating with remote control, as well as the “Light and Sight” pack. Pricing begins in Germany at 24,317 euros.
