2014 Porsche Cayman debuts in L.A.

Porsche has finally revealed the second generation of the Cayman at the L.A. Auto Show. This is basically a coupe version of the Boxster which comes with an aluminum hatch that has a built-in spoiler that sits higher and is deployed at a steeper angle in comparison to its open-top brother.

Inside the cabin it’s pretty much the same deal as in the Boxster, and will be available with a keyless entry & drive system, adaptive cruise control and a Burmester sound system. Other than that, we notice the elegant design and the top notch materials of the cabin.

The base Cayman comes with a flat six 2.7-liter engine producing 275 HP (202 kW) which is enough for a 0-62 mph sprint in 5.4 seconds and a maximum speed of 165 mph. With this engine, the 2014 Cayman has a fuel consumption between 7.7 L/100 km and 8.2L/100 km.

The more potent Cayman S comes with a beefier flat six 3.4-liter engine pumping out 325 HP (239 kW) which enables the coupe to reach 62 mph in 4.7 seconds and hit  a top speed of 176 mph. The extra performance comes at a price as fuel consumption goes up to an estimated 8.0L/100 km – 8.8L/100 km.

It is expected to reach showrooms next March in Europe and has a starting price in Germany of 51,385 euros, while the S model will set you back at least 64,118 euros. U.S. gets the new Cayman next spring from $52,600 and $63,800, respectively.
