2015 Honda Civic Type R to have at least 280 HP
Japanese marque Honda has disclosed preliminary details concerning the much awaited Type R version of the Civic which is programmed for a market launch in 2015. Powering the hot hatchback will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection gasoline engine which will pump out a minimum of 280 HP (206 kW). They haven’t provided other details but based on these official pictures provided by Honda we already can tell the 2015 Civic Type R will have a rear wing and a quad exhaust arrangement. Other changes include a lowered ride height, updated gearbox, beefy brakes and changes to the exterior appearance.
Honda’s main objective with the Civic Type R is to establish a new record on the Nürburgring for a front-wheel drive car. At this moment, Renault holds the record with its Megane RS Trophy which managed to lap the Nordschleife back in 2011 with a time of 8 minutes and 7.97 seconds. Honda Europe’s president Manabu Nishimae declared during IAA that preliminary testing has already begun and the car was very close to taking down Megane’s record.
