2016 Mercedes GLE announced, replaces ML
The 2016 Mercedes GLE is finally here and it’s set to replace the ML. Essentially a facelifted version of the mid-size SUV, the model benefits from a revised front fascia featuring an updated grille and reshaped headlights while the rear end has gained tweaked LED taillights as well as a sportier-looking exhaust system. Opt for one of the AMG versions and these come with 20-inch rims, a more aggressive front bumper, a single-bar front grille, rear diffuser along with a quad exhaust setup. The interior now has a fresh multi-function steering wheel, updated color palette and a variety of trims like carbon, wood, aluminum, piano black and others.
The 2016 Mercedes GLE is going to be offered with an extensive engine lineup including a V6 3.0-liter twin-turbo developing 333 PS & 480 Nm as well as a V8 4.7-liter twin-turbo rated at 435 PS & 700 Nm. There’s also a more economical 4-cylinder, 2.1-liter turbodiesel with 204 HP & 480 Nm along with a beefier V6 3.0-liter turbodiesel churning 258 PS & 620 Nm.
The range-topping Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 has a V8 5.5-liter twin-turbo with 557 PS & 700 Nm while the S version packs 585 PS & 760 Nm. The latter will need just 4.2 seconds to run the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) before topping out at an electronically-governed 155 mph (250 km/h).
The 2016 Mercedes GLE can also be had as a plug-in hybrid in the GLE 500e 4MATIC guise which combines a V6 3.0-liter BlueDIRECT engine, a 7-speed automatic transmission, an 8.8 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor built into the gearbox. It has a combined output of 442 PS & 650 Nm and will consume just 3.3 liters / 100 km and cover up to 30 km on electric power.
