2016 Mercedes GLS spied in Germany
A lightly disguised prototype of the 2016 Mercedes GLS was caught on camera on the streets of Germany. The mid-cycle refresh for the company’s biggest SUV in the range is going to come with a name change as the Daimler-owned marque will drop the GL moniker in order to use GLS to better show the car’s similarity in size with the S-Class. There’s not much going on in terms of design as this white prototype had only a minor amount of camouflage on the front and rear bumpers and it also carried some disguise on the headlights and taillights.
This indicates the cosmetic tweaks are going to be modest on the outside while the cabin is bound to receive some revisions as implemented in the GLE and GLE Coupe. The 2016 Mercedes GLS will be introduced before the end of this year and it’s unlikely to receive GLS Coupe and Maybach GLS derivatives in this generation, but the company does admit they are thinking about adding these versions to broaden the model’s lineup.
The 2016 Mercedes GLS could be shown to the public for the first time in the middle of September at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.
