According to Car Magazine, the next-gen BMW 6-Series will allegedly lose as much as 441 lbs (200 kg) compared to the current model. The massive diet will be possible by making the switch to the 35/up / CLAR architecture that will make extensive use of carbon fiber, aluminum, high-strength steel, titanium and magnesium. In addition, some of the weight difference will come from the fact that both the 6-Series coupe and convertible will reportedly be smaller than the versions on sale today.
Underneath the hood we should expect to find a six-cylinder 3.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 347 bhp (258 kW) as well as a diesel version rated at 333 bhp (248 kW). A turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 should be good enough to deliver 476 bhp (355 kW) and there are also talks of a twin-turbo version of the same motor which will provide a massive 600 bhp (447 kW) in the range-topping M6 version.
The next-gen BMW 6-Series is expected to come out sometime in 2017 but until then the Bavarian marque will launch a facelifted for the current model which is slated to go on sale in the first half of next year. It will feature minor cosmetic exterior & interior tweaks while the engine lineup will probably be carried over with small upgrades.
