2014 Subaru Forester unveiled in L.A.

At this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, the Japanese automaker Subaru introduced the new generation of its highly appreciated Forester. It can be considered as an evolution of its predecessor as it brings not only a higher fuel economy, but also better performance and more space inside the cabin. It is built on an entirely new platform that brings a 0.9-inch extended wheelbase that now stands at 103.9 inches. The SUV has also grown in size as it is 1.4 inches longer and 0.6 inches wider, helping the vehicle provide a rear legroom of 41.7 inches. In regards to the cargo area, this now provides 74.7 cu. ft. with the 60/40 split rear seatbacks lowered.

The engine lineup for the new Subaru Forester consists of a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine generating 170 hp and a more powerful 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged boxer producing 250 hp. Regardless of the engine choice, the SUV comes as standard with an all-wheel drive system. The 2.0-liter turbo is linked exclusively to a CVT while the 2.5-liter can be connected to either a six-speed manual or a CVT. With the latter, it can return 24 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway and 27 mpg in the combined cycle.

Depending on the trim level, the Subaru Forester can get a power rear liftgate with automatic close, a rear vision camera with a multi-function color screen, EyeSight driver assist system that has Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning.

In the United States, the SUV is expected to go on sale next spring, with pricing to be announced soon.

Speaking of pricing, those of you that can’t afford the new model have a very good alternative as there are many used cars in mint condition that can be had for a fraction of the price tag of the new model. The Subaru Forester is available on many auto sales websites where customers can find hundreds of models in various configurations, from different model years and in several trim levels.
