Next-gen Audi A4 could be more luxurious and lighter

New details have emerged about the next generation of the Audi A4 which is likely to arrive sometime next year. It seems the new model will not only be lighter, but at the same time it will be more luxurious than the current generation. Chances are the interior cabin will adopt a revamped MMI infotainment system, while the car should go on a diet from which it will lose approximately 110 lbs (50 kg). This will be possible by using plastic, magnesium and aluminum components. There should be other weight-saving technique dropping the car’s weight by a total of 100 kg (220 lbs).

As far as engines are concerned, we should expect to see a 1.4-liter TSI producing 150 HP (110 kW) and a peak torque of 184 lb-ft (250 Nm). There’s also a rumored 2.0-liter TFSI pumping out 177 HP (130 kW) and 225 HP (165 kW). As for diesels, there will probably be a 2.0-liter TDI with 122 HP (90 kW), 136 HP (100 kW), 150 HP (110 kW) and 190 HP (140 kW). The same reports indicates a more powerful V6 3.0-liter TDI generating 218 HP (160 kW) and 272 HP (200 kW).

A plug-in hybrid variant is also rumored to arrive a year after the standard model hits the market and should have a 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine working together with Audi’s own e-quattro system which should have a couple of electric motors mounted on both axles.
