The Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 TDI facelift is now available with an upgrade package developed by German tuner ABT Sportsline. Starting on the outside, the SUV has received a subtle body kit that includes headlight covers, a front grille add-on and a rear skirt that now hosts four exhaust tips while the stock wheels can be replaced with the tuner’s 20-inch set wrapped around in 275/45 R20 tires or the optional larger 22-inch wheels shod in 295/30 R22 tires. Other goodies include bespoke floor mats & trunk mat, integrated entrance lights, lowering springs and the ABT Level Control for the versions fitted with the optional air suspension.
Most of the work has been done in the engine department where this Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 TDI facelift has received an upgraded version of the V6 turbodiesel engine which now develops 290 PS (213 kW) and 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) instead of the standard 262 PS (193 kW) and 580 Nm (428 lb-ft). According to ABT Sportsline, the added power has not increased fuel consumption while the engine’s reliability has not been affected at all.
ABT mentions the power upgrade has been tested on the tuner’s dynamometer as well as on public roads to make sure the added oomph doesn’t have any negative consequences on the car’s characteristics.
