Audi A8 e-tron planned for 2015

Audi has announced plans to introduce an e-tron version of the A8 sometime next year. Their first e-tron product is based on the A3 Sportback and comes with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine working with an electric motor to generate a combined output of 204 PS and 350 Nm. These are some good figures for a compact hatchback but for a full-size sedan like the A8 there’s a need for something more. For this reason, the A8 e-tron will get a different arrangement to match the weight difference between the two cars so that it would not affect performance.

Its heart and soul will be a V6 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine and an electric motor providing a combined output of 368 PS and 700 Nm. The vehicle will be able to run on electric power for 30 miles while in hybrid mode it promises to emit less than 100 g/km of CO2 emissions.

The newly developed e-tron system will be revealed early next and will enter production a few months later.
