Audi details the RS5 TDI concept

Ingolstadt-based automaker Audi has released more details and images with the interesting RS5 TDI concept. The vehicle was designed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the TDI engine and as you would imagine is powered by a TDI V6 3.0-liter twin-turbo motor featuring a “supplemental electric turbocharger”. Audi says it’s capable of providing “staggering power” off the line thanks to the electric turbocharger which is powered by a lithium-ion battery that has a compact size. This battery uses a separate 48-volt electrical system connected to the regular 12-volt electrical system through a DC/DC converter.

As a result of all these hardware changes, the TDI engine is capable of developing an impressive 385 PS and 750 Nm from only 1,250 rpm to 2,000 rpm. It allows the concept to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4 seconds and 124 mph (200 km/h) in less than 16 seconds before topping out at 174 mph (280 km/h). Equally important is the fuel consumption which stands at just 5.3 liters / 100 km.
